BackSnacks

Each week, the Lovington Food Coalition partners with Lovington Municipal Schools to operate the weekend Backnack food program designed to support students facing food insecurity. On Thursdays, selected students quietly receive a bag filled with nutritious, non-perishable meals and snacks to carry home for the weekend, ensuring that they return to school on Monday ready to learn, rather than hungry. The program is discreetly managed by school social workers who identify participants and coordinate the hand-off. Students receive this assistance with dignity and minimal visibility, bridging the gap between Friday lunch and Monday breakfast. Our priority is to provides real relief, promote stability and support student eduction for families in our community.

We are currently proudly serving an average of 250-300 Lovington Wildcat students.

How the Program Works:

  • Lovington Municipal School Social Workers provide a list of student recipients to the Lovington Food Coalition.

  • Each Thursday, a group of dedicated, mostly retired educators/volunteers gather at the food pantry to organize and compile weekend food relief.

  • Volunteers load their personal vehicles and deliver food to each school location.

  • Social workers along with various school employees coordinate food delivery to each student, ensuring access to food over the weekend.
